Sunshine Service — Brick, Masonry & Stone Restoration

Brick, Masonry & Stone Restoration in Metro Atlanta

Masonry-specific cleaning — won't damage older mortar.

Method

How we actually do brick, masonry & stone restoration

Our methodology

Mortar-safe pre-treatment with appropriate chemistry for the masonry type. Low-pressure rinse. Hand-detailing on landmark and historic properties. We handle efflorescence (white mineral bloom), mortar staining, and biological growth on brick, stone, and natural masonry.

Where this applies

Brick walls, brick paths, retaining walls, stone steps, natural stone walkways, masonry chimneys, brick column bases, exterior fireplaces.

Recommended frequency

Every 24-36 months for cleaning. Older mortar (50+ years) may need annual inspection for joint integrity.

Our guarantee

Workmanship guaranteed against mortar damage from our methodology — we use masonry-safe chemistry rather than high-pressure that erodes joints.

Common questions

Brick, Masonry & Stone Restoration — answered

Will cleaning damage older mortar joints?

Not when masonry-specific methodology is used. High-pressure power washing can erode soft mortar (especially in pre-1950s buildings using lime-based mortar). We use chemistry and low-pressure rinse — same approach historic preservationists use.

What is the white powdery residue on my brick?

Efflorescence — mineral salts migrating to the brick surface as moisture evaporates. Common in newer construction and after wet seasons. Removable with appropriate mortar-safe cleaner. We identify the source (often a moisture issue behind the brick) and recommend whether deeper investigation is needed.

Can you clean my brick chimney?

Yes. Chimney brick on exterior walls is cleaned the same as any masonry — chemistry-first, low-pressure rinse, hand-detailing. Roof access for chimney work coordinated case-by-case based on roof condition and access points.

What about natural stone walkways?

Natural stone (flagstone, slate, travertine, bluestone) needs gentler methodology than brick — pH-neutral cleaners only, careful rinse, sealant re-application if previously sealed. We handle these case-by-case after material identification.
